Woven Vs Printed Clip Labels: What’s the Difference?
What is a Clip Label?
For those who are looking for something simple, clip labels make a great addition to any piece of custom apparel. A clip label is a small threaded patch sewn onto the cuff of a beanie, hat, t-shirt, or sweatshirt. With a clip label, you can have the design placed on both sides of the tag so when you flip the fabric the logo is still shown. Or you can choose to place an entirely different design on the opposing side showcasing two logos on one tag! This is especially useful for beanies that can be worn with and without a folded cuff.
How the Tag Fits On Your Hat
For most hats with a bill, we add the tag just outside the closure on the back which acts as an additional label for your brand. Most hat configurations will have a main design embroidered or sewn via a patch on the front, along with a clip label on the back denoting their logo or slogan. This gives your custom hat a leg up on the competition.
While adding a clip label to a hat with a bill can be a great option, we mostly see these labels attached to beanies or shirts! It’s a great addition because of the smaller size, and it won’t be overbearing to look or affect how you want to wear the beanie or t-shirt.
Whichever way that you choose to add the clip label, there are two most common types we create regularly: woven and printed.
Woven Clip Label
Features of a Woven Clip Label
A woven clip label is the most common type of tag we offer. Think of it like a small, borderless woven patch, where we weave the threads together creating a highly detailed, flat finished look. A woven label will still have a textured look similar to embroidery, but won’t stick out or have any 3D elements.
When to Use a Woven Clip Label
A woven clip label works best for simple designs with limited colors and text. Keep in mind that clip labels are much smaller than any patch. If you want to keep the detail, we really recommend that you make sure you keep your design as simple as possible. We want your design to be legible as well as beautiful!
Printed Clip Label
Features of a Printed Clip Label
A printed clip label is closest to what we know as a dye sublimated patch. This means we take your design and print it on top of a blank threaded patch. This print method creates the flattest clip label possible.
When to Use a Printed Clip Label
These clip labels are best when you have a design with a lot of color and detail that you want to include on the label. We may still need to simplify some of the design, but you are far less likely to lose as much as you might have to in order to use a woven clip label.
