How to Order Custom Leather Patches
From idea to finished patch, producing leather patches is a piece of cake! Our customer sucess team is here to help at every turn.
Step 1: Select — Select the style of leather patch you prefer, and contact our sales team for a quick quote.
Step 2: Approve — Receive a sample proof to approve within 24 hours. Revisions are easy too! Just ask your customer service rep.
Step 3: Receive — You will receive a tracking number to track your package when the final products are finished.

Custom Shapes
Leather patches can be produced in a custom shape. We offer everything from intricate cut-out shapes to simple shapes like circles and squares.
Leather Color Options
A wide selection of leather colors are offered. Everything from classic shades of browns to unique dark greens and blues. If you prefer a specific color, just ask your customer service rep.
Debossed & Embossed
Embossing recesses the background, which raises your design and creates a three-dimensional look. The reverse is the debossing effect, where your logo is recessed into the leather surface.
Laser Engrave
A process that uses a laser beam to etch your design onto the surface of the leather patch, then laser cuts the patch to shape. Laser engraving allows for very intricate custom designs with minimal texture.

Backing Options
We offer iron-on (heat applied) backing, peel-and-stick adhesive backing, hook-and-loop velcro, and no backing options. This blog article explains each patch backing style in depth.
Printing Options
There are two printing styles with leather patch designs: simple screen printing over leather to add color onto leather or full-color UV print over leather.
Real Stitched Border
You can even add a real stitched border to your leather patches, oftentimes coupled with heat-applied backing to give an authentic stitched look.
Metallic & Glow-in-the-dark Print
Your leather patches can really stand out with metallic gold, silver or copper print. Or illuminate your patch with glow-in-the-dark print.
Application Options
Two main application methods with leather patches are sew-on and heat apply. When The Monterey Company produces custom leather patch hats in-house, we primarily sew on the leather patches unless the shape of the patch doesn’t allow for sewing. We find that sewing offers a long-lasting adherence.
You can heat-apply patches as well. We suggest using low heat and using a heat press with both top and bottom heat transfer options. Here's our suggested application instructions.

Can you iron-on leather patches?
Yes, we can add heat apply leather patches. We suggest using low heat and a heat press that allows front and back heat. Our iron on patch page offers more information.
What is the minimum order quantity and production time?
The minimum quantity to order is 50 for custom leather patches. We do offer outstanding quantity discount tiers. The production time is 10 to 18 business days, depending on our current production schedule. Be sure to sign up for our email list, and look out for first order and free shipping promos (United States only).
Do you offer samples?
Yes, we do offer physical samples of your design, or we can send you a sample package of similar patches we have done for other customers. All we need is your shipping address. No charge. We do offer a free sample photo option as well.
Can I get a sample before starting production of my order?
Yes, ask your sales rep for a free sample photo option. We always provide digital proofs before your order goes into production as well.
How do you attach a leather patch?

What is the difference between debossed and engraving?

Can you add color leather patches?
Yes! Leather patches can be color-filled onto the debossed areas, or we can print a design directly onto the leather.

The Monterey Company offers two different leather materials: high quality faux (sometimes called PU or leatherette) and genuine leather patch materials, both have there positives and negatives. Our full-grain leather looks amazing and includes an aged leather patina, creating a wonderful, rich appearance. For an eco- and/or budget-friendly option, we also offer faux leatherette patches made of polyurethane leather. Both options have many customization options.
